At ChristianPodcast.com, we’re thrilled to bring you a moving episode featuring Ron Salazar and Chaplain Miles, whose stories highlight the transformative power of faith within the walls of LA County Jail. Released on July 10, 2025, this testimony showcases how God turns brokenness into a ministry of hope.

A Call to Share the Gospel

Chaplain Miles enters the jail not to preach religion, but to share the gospel and bring people to Jesus Christ. “There’s a kid inside of each one of them,” he says, looking beyond the intimidating exteriors of inmates covered in tattoos. His heart mirrors Ron’s, who, during his appeal, met Miles and found a brother in Christ. Together, they minister to men hurting from broken homes, abuse, and a world of drugs and violence—men who were once children like their own.

From Hardened Hearts to Humility

Ron reflects on his own journey, where a 138-year life sentence and addiction broke through his tough exterior. “It took a life sentence to break me,” he admits, recalling the moment his pride shattered, leading him to cry out to God. Miles, raised in a broken home with parents married five times each, understands this pain. He emphasizes that lasting change comes only through a personal relationship with Jesus, not religion, a truth Ron’s father discovered when he wept over his son’s addiction.

A Testimony of Transformation

In jail, Ron’s radical change touched Miles and fellow inmates. Despite mockery as a “jailhouse preacher,” Ron’s commitment shone through as he prayed for others and resisted temptation. Miles recalls Ron’s bold declaration, “I’m going home,” a prophecy fulfilled when his conviction was overturned. This miracle, along with the birth of his daughter as foretold, proved God’s power, inspiring others to seek faith.

Love as the Mark of Christ

Both men highlight love as the essence of their faith. Ron, judged for his tattoos, chooses to smile and bless others, using his past as a testimony to reach unreached neighborhoods. Miles notes, “God is love, and his children will be about love.” This love, poured into them by the Holy Spirit, enabled Ron to love even his rowdy cellmates, a transformation rooted in his baptism and surrender to Christ.

A Movement of Prayer

The episode captures the jail’s prayer calls, where inmates of all faiths quiet down at 9:00 p.m. to pray, share scriptures, and request intercession. This ongoing movement, spanning years, shows God’s spirit at work. Miles and Ron encourage listeners to pray for their communities, trusting that “today is the day of salvation.”

Brokenness Leads to Beauty

Reciting Psalm 51, Miles and Ron illustrate David’s brokenness before God, a mirror to their own lives. “The sacrifice you desire is a broken spirit,” they affirm, trusting God to create clean hearts and restore joy. Ron’s release on Valentine’s Day 2024, after five and a half years on appeal, and his growth through persecution, exemplify this truth.
