The Real Cost of Following Jesus: Wisdom from The Polancos

In our latest episode of the Christian Podcast, we sat down with Brian and Tasha Polanco—the couple behind the Love the Polancos podcast—for a conversation that felt less like an interview and more like a heart-to-heart at a dining room table.

Their journey is a powerful testament to what happens when you stop trying to control your own narrative and start saying "Yes" to God’s plan. Here are three major takeaways from our time with them that every believer needs to hear.

1. The Power of "Obedience Over Outcome"

Brian and Tasha didn't start their ministry because they had a massive budget or a shiny studio. In fact, they didn't have either. They started out of pure obedience.

Tasha shared candidly about her initial hesitation—she actually hates being on camera! But as she beautifully put it, "It’s not about me; it’s about what God wants to do." They adopted a posture of "Yes and Amen," trusting that if God provided the vision, He would provide the equipment.

The Lesson: Don't wait for perfection to start what God has called you to do. Your responsibility is the obedience; the outcome belongs to Him.

2. Guarding Your "Equally Yoked" Standards

One of the most impactful segments of the talk focused on dating and marriage. Tasha posed a question that every single Christian should ask: "What are your non-negotiables?"

It’s easy to settle for a "nice person," but the Polancos remind us that "nice" isn't enough when life gets hard. You need a partner who is spiritually strong—someone who will pray over you when you are weak and lead your family toward the heart of God.

The Lesson: Don’t compromise on faith to avoid being alone. A partner who shares your devotion to Jesus isn't just a "preference"—it’s the foundation of a healthy, lasting legacy.

3. Wisdom vs. Knowledge in the Age of AI

In a world increasingly reliant on technology, Brian shared a prophetic warning: We are gaining knowledge but losing wisdom.

They discussed the danger of turning to tools like AI or social media for relationship advice or spiritual guidance before we turn to the Word of God. While technology can be a helpful tool, it can never replace the discernment of the Holy Spirit or the timeless truth found in Scripture.

The Lesson: Go to the Source first. The Bible is an "open-book test" for life. Why would we look for answers anywhere else?

Final Thought

Walking with Jesus isn't always easy, and the "real cost" often involves setting aside our own comfort for His calling. But as the Polancos' story shows, the reward of living in God's will far outweighs the sacrifice.
