The Table God Prepares: When Healing Happens Over Dinner

What if the most profound spiritual moments of your life don’t happen inside a church building or at a massive conference, but around a simple dinner table?
In our latest episode of Christian Podcast, we sat down with our good friend and Pacifica track coach, Neil Massaro, for an open, heartfelt conversation about fellowship, vulnerability, and the transformative power of the table God prepares for us.
1. More Than Just a Shared Meal
When we think of community, it’s easy to focus on events, programs, or busy schedules. But as Neil shared, there is a unique richness in slowing down and sitting across from someone over a meal.
"There’s something about the table where I feel the hospitality of Jesus the most... It’s an area where God offers healing and life simply by doing life together."
In a world that constantly tells us to hustle, push forward, and stay busy, gathering around a table forces us to pause. It’s where genuine hospitality happens—not because the food is fancy or the environment is perfect, but because room is made for belonging.
2. Authenticity & The Craving to Be Known
One of the most striking insights Neil brought from coaching teenagers is how deeply young people crave authenticity. Teenagers aren't looking for adults who pretend to have everything figured out. They want to see real faith in action—including the hard parts, the hidden struggles, and the honest seasons of walking with Christ.
When we share our lives openly—the triumphs and the trials—it creates a safe space for others to drop their guard. True intimacy and friendship thrive when hiding ends and honesty begins.
3. Experiencing Psalm 23 in the Valley
During the episode, we dove deep into Psalm 23, looking closely at how David moves from describing God as a Shepherd to describing Him as a Host:
He leads us beside still waters: God knows where to bring us so our souls can rest without fear.
He prepares a table before me in the presence of my enemies: God doesn't always remove us from the chaos or spiritual warfare right away. Instead, right in the middle of the storm, He sets a table and invites us to feast in His presence.
Neil opened up about walking through deep family pain over the past year and how, amidst feeling empty or grieving, God consistently used shared meals with families to provide comfort, family, and restoration.
4. Poor or Rich, We All Need Jesus
Mili reflected on her own journey—recalling times years ago when her family relied on local soup kitchens for hot meals, to years later sitting at donor tables at school events.
Whether sitting on a folding chair at a community meal or at a formal banquet, the truth remains the same: God cares deeply for the poor, God cares for the rich, and at the end of the day, every single one of us needs Jesus. The table of God is the great equalizer.
5. Leading and Coaching with Love
Whether you are a parent, a coach, a leader, or a friend, your ultimate calling isn't defined by performance or output. As Neil shared about his team, the greatest goal is ensuring that every person in your care knows they are loved unconditionally—not for what they achieve, but for who they are in Christ.
When we receive God's love first, we can pour it out to those right in front of us.
Reflection Questions for Your Week
Who is right in front of you today? Is there someone God is asking you to invite to your table or invest in right now?
Where do you need rest? How can you take a moment this week to sit beside the "still waters" God has provided?
Are you allowing yourself to receive? If you're feeling empty, treat it not as a failure, but as an invitation to let God and community fill your cup.
