From Pain to Praise: Forrest Frank & Cory Asbury’s Redemption Song

By Beto & Mili, Christian Podcast™

A Miracle in the Making

Hey, family! Beto and Mili here, podcasting from Costa Mesa with a story that’s got us shouting, “Glory to God!” Here at Christian Podcast™, we’re all about real talk—faith, struggles, and how Jesus shows up when life gets messy. Today, we’re diving into the powerful testimony of Forrest Frank and Cory Asbury, two brothers in Christ who turned pain into praise. Grab your coffee, pull up a chair, and let’s unpack this miracle!

Picture this: Forrest Frank, the worship artist behind anthems like “Good Day” that have us raising our hands, takes a brutal fall while skateboarding with his son in late July 2025. The result? Fractured L3 and L4 vertebrae in his back. Serious pain, hospital visits, and his wife praying fiercely by his side. But 14 days later, scans reveal his back is completely healed. A straight-up miracle! Forrest gives all the glory to Jesus, and we’re over here shouting, “Amen!” He channels that pain into Lemonade, a song released on August 22, 2025, that soars to #1 on Apple Music across all genres, proving God can make beauty from brokenness. It reminds us of Beto’s moments on the mountain with our boys, seeing God’s hand in the hardest times.

"Man, this is super tough. I know y’all are gonna be like ‘Forrest, you’re way too sensitive,’ but this is like, the 10th, or even the 20th post I have seen from another Christian artist making fun of probably the most traumatic moment of my life [and] my wife’s life."

When Social Media Stings

But here’s where it gets real, family. Cory Asbury, the voice behind “Reckless Love” (you know, the song that wrecks us every time), sees Forrest’s story explode online. A viral trend kicks off where Christian artists, inspired by Forrest’s recovery-to-song journey, post parodies about turning their own minor injuries into music. On August 25, Cory joins in with a playful video joking about his vasectomy—“snip, snip season”—poking fun at Lemonade. It was meant to be lighthearted, but it lands like a chancla to the heart for Forrest and his wife. Social media’s wild, y’all—one minute it’s love, the next it’s a sting. Forrest shared that his algorithm kept pushing these parodies, and it cut deep for his family.

The Hurt Behind the Humor

Forrest, still raw from his accident, felt the parodies trivialized his miracle and trauma. He’d shared his healing as a testimony, even teaming up with David Crowder (who’d broken his leg) on another hit, “The Rock.” But the flood of parody videos—10, 20, maybe more, from artists like Matthew West joking about a bee sting to comedian Shama and others—piled on. Forrest said it wasn’t just him; his wife felt the weight, too. It sparked questions about social media’s lack of “seatbelts” for believers, especially with kids watching. Cory, who went viral with “Reckless Love,” thought he was joining a fun trend, not realizing the hurt it caused. The cumulative effect was a gut punch to Forrest’s family, making his pain feel mocked.

Jesus Takes the Wheel

Now, watch Jesus move. Forrest doesn’t clap back or fuel online drama. Instead, he follows Matthew 18:15, handling it like a true hermano in Christ. On August 26, he posts a raw Instagram video, sharing how the parodies stung but inviting Cory to create something beautiful together. The result? Misunderstood, a song that’s pure fire with lyrics like, “Sometimes words hit you in the chest / Sting you like a bee / And rob you of your rest.” It’s about pain but also Jesus’ forgiveness on the cross: “It’s okay if you feel misunderstood / There’s a Man who did as well / When they nailed Him to wood.” Cory owns his mistake, pulls the video that evening, and calls Forrest. They talk it out, share their hearts—Forrest learning Cory’s story, Cory hearing Forrest’s pain—and by the end, they’re best buds, planning a taco night. Cory’s verse hits home: “Sometimes two friends are just one call away / Years full of hurt / Can be healed in a day.”

"I think I have a new best friend... I want you to come over to my house and have dinner with my family. I want us to hang out, like I see your heart and I see your story, and I love you dog, straight up."

A Testimony of Unity

This is the Gospel in action, family—two imperfect guys, loved by Jesus, choosing grace over drama. Matthew West and others apologized after private talks, saying they handled it “biblically.” Misunderstood, released on August 29, 2025, is a powerful testimony of God’s redeeming love. Here in Costa Mesa, we’re wiping tears and praising God for this picture of unity. As Mili says, God’s heart is generational, always drawing us closer to Him and each other, like passing a baton to our kids.

Our Story, God’s Glory

This story hits home for us as Latinos, too. Our culture is all about family, faith, and coming together—values that shine in Forrest and Cory’s choice to forgive and build something beautiful. We’ve shared meals, laughter, and stories with our kids, just like these brothers chose to share a song instead of shade. That’s what God does for us—offering second, third, even a thousand chances to choose love. As Jesus said in John 15:13, “There’s no greater love than this, than he who lays down his life for his friends.” That’s the light that drives out darkness, no matter the hurt.

"Man, I never meant to poke fun at anything that you were going through... Bro, I apologize for being one of those people. I heard your song, and I think it's really powerful, man. I'm down to go there with you."
